lyrics

Today I was downtown, I ran into a friend
I hadn’t seen or heard from him in quite some time
We talked about the things we’d done and where we’d been
It was really kind of weird, ‘cause just this morning he had crossed my mind
That happens all the time
You get a song stuck in your head that you haven’t heard for years
You turn on the radio, and it’s the first song that you hear

If you think about it, this town is just like outer space
If you take away all the buildings and the solid ground
Eliminate the gravity and just float around
Faces and words come drifting by like cosmic debris
You see what passes by
You try to gather clues to determine where you are
Sit back, enjoy the view and simply drift among the stars

Last night it was so cold that when I went outside
There was a thin crust of frozen moonlight on the field
Everything was blue, it was so surreal
It was so bright that I was casting shadows in the dark
I looked up in the sky
I saw the big dipper just above the treeline
It hung just like a question mark

I don’t know what to make of all of this
I don’t know what it means
I don’t know if there’s some message here
Aimed pointedly at me
But I’m walking through a forest
Or is it swimming in a sea?
Of random scattered images
Of cosmic debris
